Brain Imaging Research Study with Treatment for Bipolar Disorder

Purpose

This study uses brain-imaging technology to visualize and research changes in brain chemistry that may cause an episode of depression in patients with bipolar disorder. You will undergo two PET scans and an MRI scan. In exchange for study participation you will receive up to six months of outpatient treatment or up to two months of inpatient treatment. You will be treated with either lithium or Lamictal, based on your clinical needs.

This study is not recruiting Healthy Volunteers.

Inclusion Criteria:
Ages 18 to 65 years old
Meets criteria for Bipolar Disorder
Currently depressed
