Psychotherapy for depressed and self-injuring adolescents

Purpose

The current study is recruiting 12 to 18 year olds who are experiencing symptoms of depression and who have engaged in non-suicidal self-injury. Eligible participants will receive 12 weeks in individual psychotherapy designed to treat the depression and self-injury by addressing interpersonal skills. Participant in the study also involves psychosocial evaluations. Adolescents who are currently on antidepressant medication will not be eligible for the study.

Criteria

Inclusion Criteria:
engagement in non-suicidal self-injury; diagnosis of MDD, depression, NOS, dysthymia, or adjustment disorder with depressed mood; 12 to 18 years of age; English speaking
