The Combined BS/MS (ETP) program is an accelerated combined-degree (BS/MS) program for non-nursing college graduates. The program is designed to prepare the student for a career as an Advanced Practice Nurse. Academic studies are closely integrated with clinical experience. There are two components: pre-licensure study which prepares the student for basic nursing practice and specialty study which focuses on an advanced practice role in professional nursing.
The Columbia University School of Nursing offers nine Master’s specialties.
Master’s sub-specialties can be taken as electives, in conjunction with a degree-granting program or as a non-degree program. Certain subspecialties require a master’s degree in that specialty, some require a BS in nursing and others require a BS degree in any area.
Nurses with a master’s degree are eligible for a University Statutory Certificate in one of the specialty areas. A certificate requires a minimum number of credits, the range is 25-38. A Master’s Completion Program of 30 credits is also available for nurse practitioners or clinical nurse specialists who do not have a master’s degree.
Doctoral education at Columbia prepares individuals to fill the growing need for expert researchers (PhD) and clinicians (DNP) to meet the health care challenges facing our nation.
